San Francisco to Tokyo to Kuala Lumpur - February 20-22

So I decided to resume my travel blogging after an 8 year gap. Chris’s emails to everyone chronicled those years. My return to blogging is inspired by our trip on my brothers boat in Oct-Nov where I was the guest blogger. https://christopher-p.com/

After 2 days of travel, we are finally in Kuala Lumpur. Thanks to frequent flier miles, our long flights have been business class.

SFO to Tokyo – 11-hour flight – Japan Airlines

Overnight in Tokyo

Tokyo to Kuala Lumpur – 8-hour flight – Malaysian Airlines

Both airlines had good business class food and we had our first taste of Malaysian Satay!

So far, our trip has been a study in contrasts.  Japan has strict mask requirements, both on the plane and in the airport.  Immigration and customs were quick and efficient and almost as many airport staff greeting you as there were passengers.  The only glitch was a less than friendly Visit Japan website that need to be completed before we could go through immigration..  Luckily there was plenty of staff to help.

In contrast, masks were not required on Malaysian Airlines, and we didn’t have to provide any vaccination information upon entering the country. We had to wait in line for 1.5 hours to clear immigration and few staff were available for questions.

But we made it safely to our hotel in Kuala Lumpur and we are looking forward to our tours.  More tomorrow.
