Singapore to Nautica - March 1-2

We checked out of our hotel in Singapore around noon on Wednesday, March 1st and headed to one of the cruise ports where we boarded the MS Nautica. Exiting Singapore immigration and boarding the ship went smoothly and quickly.

Returning to the Nautica is like returning to a favorite vacation spot.  This is our 4th cruise on this ship and we have spent 2+ months on it in past trips so it does feel a bit like home.  Although the ship has been refurbished since we were last on it in the Spring of 2018, we know where everything is located and that makes our transition to onboard living very easy.

A string quartet was playing and sitting and listening to them was always one of our favorite before dinner activities.

We ate dinner in one of the speciality dining rooms on our first night and shared a table with a couple from North Carolina and a Philippine couple who now live in Palm Springs.

On Thursday we attended the enrichment lecture on Brunei which is our first port. If you had asked me before this trip, I couldn't have told you where Brunei was located.  More on Brunei tomorrow.

We relaxed the rest of the day, I think we needed a day at sea to recover from the sightseeing in Malaysia and Singapore.

We went to the Captain's welcome cocktail party before dinner and sat with a retired naval fighter pilot and his wife, exchanging travel stories with them.  They asked if we had been to the night safari in Singapore which they thought was fantastic, but clearly the heavy rain interfered with our enjoyment.

We ended the day with a dinner in the other speciality restaurant, sharing a table with a retired dentist and his wife from Indiana.  They have been traveling since January 23rd hitting such places as the east coast of Africa and Bangladesh.  They joined this cruise in Singapore and are on the cruise until Tokyo.

The seas have been a bit rough since we boarded in Singapore and the pool and some of the outside decks have been closed.  I don't quite have my sea legs yet.

That is all for now.  Next post will be on our visit to Brunei.
