Kythnos - October 20-21, 2023

We left Syros on the morning of the 20th to begin the return part of our North Cyclades circuit, and headed to the island of Kythnos for our last two nights at two different ports on Kythnos.

First we anchored for another chance for water activities on the east side of a long sandbar at Kolona Beach. Several of us (Frank, Tom, Rita, Chris) made long swims to and walked on the sandbar.

View of the Port of Merichas

We spent the night in the port of Merichas where we walked through the small town and up to a point where we had a nice view of the town.

A local fisherman was fishing for octopus and there were also local fish for sale.

We passed by a couple of buildings with dovecotes.

Late the next morning we pulled out of Meriches and went to the cove on west side of the long sandbar, for swimming and lunch.

Seawing

Besides more adventures with the Seabobs and trying out the Seawings (a smaller and less expensive version of the Seabobs), Rita and Tom tried waterskiing. The ship's dingy only had a 50hp outboard...Tom nearly made it up during three tries, but Rita was the champ, stood up after several tries and waterskied around the cove.

While people played in the water, Dimitris was busy barbecuing a delicious lunch for us.

After lunch we headed to the port of Loutra where we spent our last night aboard For Sail.  We took a walk through the town to a hot spring.  We never did find the source of the water but it flowed in a channel down to the beach where stones were arranged to collect the hot water.

I have not previously mentioned the cats, but there are cats everywhere. They were hanging around the boats and we even had them jump on board a couple of times. Everywhere we docked there were cats.  The cats all appeared to be well fed so obviously Greeks love their cats and look after them, often by catching sardines near the docked boats and throwing them to the local cats.

Rita and I enjoyed our last margaritas.

We took a group picture.

And Dimitris prepared a wonderful Moussaka.

I don't think I mentioned that Dimitris and Sara are a couple and they make a great team.  They have a company called Land of Light and you can visit their instagram page at:
